Tax Structure in the US By Thomas Paine We often hear about tax cuts for the rich. How unfair the tax structure is in the US and why taxes need to be cut for the middle class. In 2006 the top 20% of taxpayers paid 74% of the taxes, over $1 trillion. The bottom 50% of taxpayers pay about 5% of the taxes. So the rhetoric to cut taxes for the "middle class" will result in few additional dollars in the economy and more dollars in the government treasury.
